Mentorship Program

The Mentorship Program is designed for current law students from any university in Canada to volunteer some of their time and knowledge to undergraduate students at Queen’s University who are interested in pursuing law school.Mentors can meet with their assigned mentee(s) either in person or via Zoom. The program is very flexible since you can choose to meet with your mentee whenever it fits in your schedule, and as frequently as you decide. We are estimating that each mentor will have around two mentees.Mentors will primarily be giving general insight into law school, providing guidance, and answering questions about law school related admissions. Mentors are not expected to be an LSAT tutor, more of a general advisor for the process. Depending on your mentee, they may be a first-year student simply looking for answers as to whether law school is a good fit for them, or a fourth-year student who may need help with a personal essay for their applications.

This program is an excellent mentorship opportunity for those who enjoy helping others and partaking in leadership opportunities. Besides receiving the personal fulfillment of helping an undergraduate student shape their future, the program is also an excellent networking opportunity for law students. At the beginning and the end of the academic year, the Queen’s Pre-Law Society will facilitate two networking events with refreshments and treats for those residing in Kingston, Ontario. Besides a physical networking event, we will compile a database of our mentors, their school, internships, and personal interests in order to promote professional networking. Using this database, the law students can connect with their peers and talk about summer employment, company experiences, or just any mutual traits! The deadline for mentor signup is August 27th, 2023 at 11:59 EST.
